THE STORY & THE FUTURE

Born in the Cape Verdean district of Providence, Rhode Island, a young black woman by the name of Vanessa Rosa uncharacteristically came to identify with the goth subculture as a teenager. Over a decade later that identity was still the basis for her entire aesthetic when she chose to pursue a career as a streamer on the platform of Twitch. She became known as Gothix. And a following was grown. Until one day in July of 2019 she made a miscalculated statement online; a statement that enraged fellow streamers, colleagues, friends, audience members, and passers-by, causing her to abandon the path that had brought her to success in the first place. The GOTHIX documentary covers the story of the downward spiral that overtook her life and the subsequent revelations she had at the bottom.

This film is currently streaming on Amazon Prime & Loor TV, but is still waiting to be seen by most of the world. If you have seen the film, please consider leaving a review of it on Rotten Tomatoes, IMDB, Letterboxd, or Amazon Prime. GOTHIX is also now in the 2024 film festival circuit so keep an eye out in case it comes to a city near you! We won the Austin Lift-Off Film Festival earlier this year for “Best Documentary Feature!”

ABOUT THE DOCUMENTARY

If you watch the film and are planning to make posts or videos about it for a YouTube channel, the most helpful thing to us would be directing your audience to the Prime Video link because it is still somewhat difficult to find on there.

The film’s director, Graeme Wilson, made an entertaining video talking about that problem.
